We were contacted by event organiser Rachael in August, inviting us to perform at the Walk as One event in Endcliffe Park. We were of course delighted to help out such a worthy cause. We were told that a stage, PA and sound engineer would be provided for the event and all we had to do was turn up with our instruments and amps.
Because we’d been absolved from setting the stage, we were able to arrive just hour before our scheduled first note, to get loaded to the stage and sound check. The stage was decent size and our sound engineer was very helpful. We’d been booked for an hour slot so we’d just picked the bangers off the set list. I’d hoped to open with Rock n Roll Star by Oasis but we’d only run it a couple of times in rehearsal and we decided to open with She’s Electric instead.
It was great fun being the backing track for the walkers as they crossed the finish line. Lots of smiling face and good vibes. The rain held off until about 1:45pm but by then most of the walkers were back and the event was coming to a close. What a lovely way to spend a Sunday afternoon. The event raised over £45,000 for Weston Park Cancer Charity.
