A Works Christmas Do at Cornerstone, Dyson Place

Live music for a Christmas Party

Our last gig before Christmas took us to the brilliant Cornerstone at Dyson Place in Sheffield, where we were invited to perform at a corporate Christmas party packed with festive cheer, great people, and a seriously impressive buffet. And we don’t say that lightly – when a venue welcomes the band with roast beef, Italian sausages, and a full hot spread before the first chord is even struck, you know you’re in for a good night.

This gig also marked the return of Adam on lead guitar, bringing those signature riffs and solos back into full force. Ben handled lead vocals, keys, and rhythm guitar, Andy brought the groove on drums, and together we hit the stage as the classic four-piece lineup ready to bring the 90s and 00s nostalgia.

To add to the seasonal atmosphere, we came armed with a couple of Christmas-rock tunes, ready to turn the party into a festive singalong.

And we weren’t the only ones planning to get involved. Early in the night, the company’s Managing Director, Ray, mentioned that he “knew the drum part to Parklife.” Naturally, we assumed he meant he liked the drum part… but no. He meant he actually knew it. So we invited him to join us for the second set opener – and he absolutely nailed it. But more on that shortly.

Live music for a Christmas Party

Between sets, Mark DJ’d and kept the dancefloor warm with a great blend of indie classics and party favourites.

Set One – Indie Bangers & Christmas Cheer

We kicked things off with our familiar opener, Bohemian Like You, which instantly got heads nodding. From there it was a run of massive favourites:

  • Teenage Dirtbag had everyone singing,
  • She’s Electric became a full-room chorus,
  • Dreaming of You got couples dancing,
  • and Parklife brought the first proper jump-around moment of the night.

Mid-set, Shut Up and Dance filled the floor and Roll With It, Mardy Bum, Last Nite, and Dakota kept it full.

To close the first half, we fired up our Christmas special – Slade’s It’s Christmas – and the room erupted. Nothing quite kicks off the season like shouting “IT’S CHRIIIISTMAAAAS!” with 100 people full of festive spirit.

Set Two – Ray on Drums, Dancefloor Chaos & Christmas Finale

We opened the second set with the moment everyone had been waiting for: Ray on drums for “Parklife.”

With Andy handing over the sticks and stepping aside, Ray jumped in confidently – and smashed the whole track. The room loved it, we loved it, and Ray walked off stage to huge cheers. A top moment.

With the MD safely back in the crowd, we dived straight into:

  • Take Me Out
  • Valerie
  • a high-powered Proud Mary
  • the falsetto madness of I Believe in a Thing Called Love
  • Common People
  • and crowd-favourite Mr Brightside

By this point the dancefloor was a sweaty, smiling sea of motion – the perfect setup for All the Small Things, I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor, Chelsea Dagger, and Sex on Fire.

To close the main set, we brought out our second festive tune – Don’t Let the Bells End – which somehow manages to be both chaotic and Christmassy, and the crowd absolutely lapped it up.

The chants for “ONE MORE!” didn’t stop, so we came back on for a final encore: Seven Nation Army, which turned into one huge, booming singalong that echoed through Dyson Place.

🎁 A Night of Great Food, Great People & Great Music

Huge thanks to everyone at the company for inviting us – and especially to Ray for being such a good sport. The atmosphere, hospitality, and energy from the crowd made it one of our standout Christmas gigs.

Merry Christmas from all of us – and here’s to more 90s & 00s nights in the year ahead!
