A 50th Birthday

If last week’s 10th wedding anniversary gig at The Station Pub proved anything, it’s that nothing brings people together quite like a night of 90s and 00s anthems. Just a few days later, on Friday, we were back at it again—this time at The Ridgeway Arms in Mosborough—for another unforgettable celebration. The occasion? Lisa’s 50th birthday party. And let’s just say, Lisa and her friends showed us that age is just a number when the music’s this good!

We were buzzing to have Deacan back on guitar for a second weekend in a row. His riffs added an extra punch to the set, and the energy in the room was electric from the very first chord.

We opened with Blur’s Song 2, and instantly the dance floor filled up. It set the tone perfectly—this wasn’t going to be a sit-down-and-clap kind of night. The crowd was there to party, and party they did. By the time we hit Teenage Dirtbag and She’s Electric, people were singing into their drinks like they were microphones, and Lisa was right at the front, grinning from ear to ear.

The first set kept rolling with Britpop classics—Supergrass’ Alright had the place bouncing, Dreaming of You had couples swaying, and Parklife was as cheeky and fun as ever (with plenty of volunteers in the audience happy to shout out the spoken parts). A real highlight was Mardy Bum—the Arctic Monkeys track always goes down a storm in Sheffield, and this night was no exception. We closed the first half with Dakota, the kind of anthem that unites everyone in one big singalong.

After a quick break for drinks and cake (Lisa’s birthday spread was impressive!), we came back with another stormer: Franz Ferdinand’s Take Me Out. From then on, it was anthem after anthem. Valerie got the whole pub singing in unison, Proud Mary had everyone twisting and turning, and I Believe in a Thing Called Love tested the falsetto skills in the room.

The biggest moment of the night? Without question, Mr Brightside. The second that iconic riff kicked in, The Ridgeway Arms erupted. Everyone—friends, family, even the bar staff—joined in, shouting every word like it was the first time they’d ever heard it. It was one of those goosebump moments that make gigs like this so special.

The second half carried on at full throttle with All the Small Things, I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor, and Chelsea Dagger, before Sex on Fire took the energy through the roof. By the time we reached Don’t Look Back in Anger, the whole pub had their arms around each other, singing their hearts out—a perfect way to toast Lisa’s milestone birthday.

For the encore, we slowed it down (just a little) with Can’t Take My Eyes Off You, which felt especially fitting for the birthday girl surrounded by her loved ones. And then we signed off with Seven Nation Army, sending everyone home buzzing, still chanting the riff into the night.

Lisa’s 50th wasn’t just a birthday party—it was proof that the best nights are about more than just the music. They’re about friends, family, and making memories together. We were honoured to be part of it. Happy birthday, Lisa—here’s to many more nights like this one!

Absolutely fantastic. This band made our party – they sound fantastic and could read the room so knew what to play to keep everyone dancing.
