There are some gigs that just feel special from the very first note, and Eleanor & Alexander’s wedding at The Mowbray in Kelham Island, Sheffield was one of those unforgettable nights. From the atmospheric venue to the packed dance floor, this was a celebration brimming with energy, laughter, and pure 90s/00s nostalgia.
A First Dance with a Twist
When Eleanor & Alexander told us their first dance choice, we knew straight away it was going to set the tone for the night. Instead of the usual ballad, they went bold with “Life is a Highway” by Rascal Flatts – a fun, upbeat anthem that perfectly reflected their personalities. Playing it live for them was a real honour, and seeing the two of them singing along, surrounded by friends and family, was a brilliant way to kick off the evening.
Fuel for the Party
During our break, the party didn’t miss a beat thanks to the DJ taking over the decks. Guests spilled out onto The Mowbray’s terrace, where trays of roast pork sandwiches made the rounds. Honestly, they went down a storm – the perfect fuel to keep everyone dancing into the early hours. The venue’s team were fantastic as always, and the combination of good food, good music, and a buzzing atmosphere kept spirits sky-high.
A Setlist Made for Sheffield
We built the night’s setlist around singalong anthems and indie classics – the kind of tracks that guarantee hands in the air and voices raised. Kicking things off with “Bohemian Like You” and “Teenage Dirtbag”, the dance floor filled up quickly. From there, it was a tour through Britpop favourites like “She’s Electric”, “Dreaming of You”, “Disco 2000”, and Arctic Monkeys’ “Mardy Bum” (always a Sheffield crowd-pleaser).
By the time we hit “Dakota”, the room was bouncing. After a quick breather, we launched into our second set, opening with “Take Me Out” and keeping the energy high with floor-fillers like “Valerie”, “Mr Brightside”, and “I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor.” The night hit fever pitch with “Sex on Fire”, before the whole crowd belted out “Don’t Look Back in Anger.”
Of course, no wedding would be complete without an encore. Eleanor & Alexander chose wisely – “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You” had everyone swaying arm in arm, and then we closed with “Seven Nation Army”, a thunderous finale that had the terrace still echoing with chants long after the amps cooled down.
A Word from the Bride
At the end of the night, Eleanor told us:
“I honestly can’t believe how good you guys were. You were half the price of some of the other bands we looked at, but you absolutely blew everyone away.”
For us, that’s what it’s all about – creating a night that couples and their guests will remember forever, without breaking the bank.
A Night to Remember
Eleanor & Alexander’s wedding was everything we love about playing live: an incredible venue, a setlist packed with bangers, and a crowd who gave it everything on the dance floor. Thank you both for letting us be part of your day – we had as much fun as you did!
