A Wedding at Thornbridge Hall

We finally played the gig we thought was never going to happen.

Back in 2019 we were booked to play the wedding of Holly and Mark at the spectacular Thornbridge Hall just outside Bakewell. The original date was in March 2020 but this was postponed and moved to October 2020. August 2020 rolled around and Mark contacted me to say that given the ongoing global pandemic they were going to have to postpone again until October 2021.

We had a couple of requests from Holly and Mark which we’re always happy to accommodate. The first was She’s Electric, an Oasis classic that fits squarely within our genre. We’ve wheeled this one out at the last three gigs and it’s always gone down a storm. The second request was for Tina Turner’s version of the Credence Clearwater classic Proud Mary. Think you don’t know it?

🎵 Rollin, rollin, rollin, on the river 🎵

This is not really in our songbook but we don’t like to disappoint and it’s quite a straight forward tune.

We arrived at the venue to discover a good size stage, with the curtain drawn, allowing us to discreetly setup our gear and soundcheck before the cake cutting. Once cake was cut and the first dance danced, it was our time. As requested we opened with Disco 2000 and She’s Electric followed by an hour of 90s and 00s classics. For the encore we performed Proud Mary, this went down much better than we expected. Perhaps we should make it a regular feature of the set.

We had to throw a couple of more numbers in at the end because the DJ was running late but that was no issue. We packed up and we invited down to the Thornbridge Hall’s subterranean night club which is pretty cool. All in all a successful gig.

We recently hired Toast to play a set during our wedding day and I have to say, it was a great decision.

They were very accommodating from the get go and were no hassle in terms of meeting our wishes for setting up. They played a fantastic one hour set (they do play longer, this was our decision) of indie/pop classics that kept the dancefloor full throughout. The band were very together and the front man was great!

A few of our guests have asked us for their contact details, they were that good! Definitely recommend Toast whatever the occasion may be!! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
