A Wedding at Hideaway

I was completely unaware of Hideaway tucked away on Eyre Lane in the backstreets of Sheffield city centre. I suppose it’s clear from the name that this should surprise no one.

We were delighted to be invited to play at Lynsey & Kev’s wedding reception. A very easy going couple whose only requests were “Proud Mary” for the oldies and Bohemian Like You by the Dandy Warhols.

Anyone following this blog will be aware that we have been without our regular drummer Andy since his foot surgery back in October. For this event we had the irritatingly talented, multi-instrumentalist Toyn on the drums. It seems we are somewhat cursed by fate, Not satisfied with striking down Andy, fate decided to send a golden retriever to break Toyn’s ribs the week before the gig. At rehearsal he said he was fine but on the day of the gig we could see he was struggling. A sign of the healing process kicking in.

Ever the professional Toyn soldiered on as did frontman Ben who was suffering with the flu and was quite literally on his knees by the time we reached the end of the second set. The audience must have assumed he was consumed with artistic convulsions and didn’t seem to notice that we were not firing on all cylinders.
