Setting the Stage

A four-piece band takes up a surprising amount of space. A drum kit up against a wall will protrude 2 metres into a room with a drummer installed behind it. Then you’ve got two guitar amps, a bass amp, two monitor speakers (so we can hear ourselves), a mixing desk and a keyboard.

In an attempt to convey the minimum amount of space we need, we have created this handy visual guide.

Does the band perform outdoors?

The answer is yes, but with some caveats…

Rain

The great British weather is not always on our side. For this reason we will require a large gazebo or awning to cover us and our gear should the heavens open. We also recommending having an appropriately sized indoor space available, so that if the weather doesn’t brighten up, the show can go on.

Terrain

Our drummer requires a level, even surface on which to set up his kit. Patios and decking tend to be fine. If we’re playing on grass or gravel the drumkit will require boards to be put down. The rest of the band will be standing so a boarded area of 2 metres squared should be sufficient for the drummer. If you’re concerned about the suitability of your performance area, send us a picture and we can advise.

Temperature

Playing an instrument requires dexterity and in cold weather hands invariably seize up. During spring and summer this is rarely a consideration, but as the nights close in and the temperature drops this can pose a problem. For that reason, unless the weather forecast is unseasonably favourable, we don’t perform outdoors between the 1st of October and the 1st of May.
