The Equestrian Ball at Aston Hall Hotel

Equestrian Ball at Aston Hall Hotel

January 2025 kicked off in serious style with the annual Equestrian Ball at Aston Hall Hotel – and what a night it was! With the grand surroundings of Aston Hall setting the scene, the dance floor quickly became the heart of the evening as our 90s and 00s cover band delivered two powerhouse sets of indie anthems, pop favourites, and festival classics.

The ball was filled with an audience ready to sing, dance, and party – and it was clear from the very first chord that the young crowd, made up mostly of ladies dressed to impress, were more than ready for a throwback celebration.

Set One – Building the Energy

The night kicked off with Blur’s “Song 2”, a track that instantly had the crowd bouncing. From there, we leaned into pure 90s nostalgia with “Teenage Dirtbag”, a song that practically turned the ballroom into one giant singalong.

The Britpop vibes kept flowing with “She’s Electric” and “Alright”, before the mood shifted into the dreamy tones of “Dreaming of You”. By this point, the crowd was well and truly warmed up.

The playful storytelling of “Park Life” had everyone laughing and chanting along, while “Love Machine” brought some cheeky pop sparkle into the mix. A sun-soaked blast of “Holiday” kept spirits high before the gritty Sheffield anthem “Heavyweight Champion of the World” hit home with local pride.

Indie rock lovers were treated to “Somebody Told Me”, followed closely by the swaggering “Roll With It” and the crowd-favourite “Mardy Bum.” Things hit a fever pitch with “Last Nite” and “Dakota”, closing out the first set on a high.

Set Two – The Party Ignites

After a short break, the second set launched with the unmistakable riff of “Take Me Out”, which set the tone for what was to come. From there, it was non-stop energy.

The soulful singalong of “Valerie” had the whole room swaying before the soaring falsettos of “I Believe in a Thing Called Love” took things into rock opera territory. “Shut Up and Dance” proved its name, turning the ballroom into a pulsating sea of dancers.

Indie cool came courtesy of “Bohemian Like You”, but when we dropped into “Mr Brightside,” the roof practically came off – a defining moment of the night.

The pop-punk energy of “All the Small Things” kept the momentum alive, leading perfectly into “I Bet That You Look Good on the Dancefloor.” Sheffield pride rang out again with “Common People”, before the whole room erupted into chants during “Chelsea Dagger.”

The night’s climax came with a double hit – “Sex on Fire” and the timeless Oasis anthem “Don’t Look Back in Anger.” By the final chorus, voices echoed around Aston Hall as strangers and friends alike sang arm in arm.

The Encore and Afterparty

Of course, the night didn’t end there. For the encore, the ballroom swayed together during a heartfelt version of “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You,” before exploding one last time into the pounding rhythm of “Seven Nation Army.”

But even after the instruments were packed away, the party spirit lived on. Mark took over on the decks, spinning an hour of floor-fillers that kept the energy alive well past midnight. The transition from live music to DJ set was seamless – the dance floor never emptied, and the crowd never stopped smiling.

Final Thoughts

The Equestrian Ball at Aston Hall Hotel was the perfect way to start 2025 – a night full of anthems, atmosphere, and unforgettable memories. From the biggest indie hits of the 90s and 00s to timeless singalong moments, the set list delivered something for everyone, and the audience gave us everything back in return.
